History & Inventions
DPG was born in 1986 as a registered non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and from thereon fully involved in Development Initiatives. To start with, during the first few years, DPG had concentrated in organising and financing eco-camps for college students on environment, water for rural women and children, development of financial accounting system for voluntary organisations, capacitation training for NGO personnel in accounting and many others. DPG had also undertaken several evaluation studies for donor agencies and conducted various exhibitions to market small NGO products.
Our first development project was in 1987, a drinking water project in 40 villages of Tirunelveli and V.O.C Districts along with Council of Advancement of People's Action and Rural Technology (CAPART). The success of this project was our launching pad to be on our own for the years to come.
How Does DPG Select An Area For Its Work?

NGOs / CBOs / community groups approach DPG for possible development co-operation. Thereupon DPG representatives along with the local contact agency visit the area, conduct focus group discussions and then determine the need of the area.

Once the area and the issues are identified through various proven tools - PRA, group based discussion, survey and collection of information from available sources - baseline indicators of poverty are established. With the help of the community the issues are discussed by all, listed, prioritized and then action is taken.
