As a part of psychosocial counseling, DPG organized a
series of camps for children in a few villages between Jan and May 2005, concluding with a 22-day summer camp in
May 2005 for 150 children in Nagapattinam district. The
children were exposed to different kinds of painting skills
like glass painting, fabric painting and were also taught
new crafts like pot painting and ice-cream stick painting.
Following this, DPG provided tuition classes to schoolgoing
children (42) at Vilunthamavadi and
Vanavanmahadevi and non-formal classes for drop-out
children (16) in both the villages at Nagapattinam district.
A bridge course for drop-out children is also being
conducted at Vanavanmahadevi for 17 children. In
Mapillaioorani village, Tuticorin, a nursery is being
maintained with 25 children.
Till March 2005, regular health camps were
also conducted in almost all the villages in a few
cases on a monthly basis and in a couple of areas
on a quarterly basis and in other places in cooperation
with other NGOs.
Till date, 284 girls / married women have
either undergone or are undergoing tailoring
training. The objective is to provide trainees
with a skill base to make at least 12 common
garments and in the process cater to the
tailoring needs of their own villages.
DPG has provided motor mechanic training to
the youth (20) in Perumanal village, Tirunelveli
district.
